History: Neeta Kenobi was the bastard daughter of a pilot, Miira Tor. Neeta was never told much about her father aside from the fact that he had "abandoned the family". Miira had never been willing to talk about the man who was her father to her children either which left him in relative obscurity. Neeta always resented the fact that the man, Ben Kenobi, was an absentee parent and this resentment never caused her to question her mother on the vague and sometimes contradictory aspects of the story Miira would tell. Neeta grew up an only child mostly being raised by her grandparents while her mother worked as a pilot off world to support the family. As determined as Neeta was to be responsible like her mother, she made the mistake of falling in love with a horribly abusive man who refused to support her or the two children that they produced together.
Roland was the first born to Neeta Kenobi and Florian Kenten. Rune was born, two years later. Florian would come into the family's life long enough to reek havoc and then leave Neeta high and dry. Everything changed when Neeta met Roul Soto, a moisture farmer. The two fell in love and he accepted Neeta's children as his own and Rune and Roland thought of Roul as their father. Neeta maintained her parts shop while Roul farmed. They provided what they could for their children, but it was a sparse life none the less. Rune's older brother, Roland, would help by working with his mother in the shop, or with his father on the farm. Rune, being two years younger, was usually tasked with less strenuous jobs that would help the family. This usually involved holding things or running errands for either of her parents. Once she was old enough, she began answering calls for her mother's shop.
While Roland ran around getting odd jobs and learning to fly, Rune spent her time land bound. Part of her wanted to follow her brother to the sky and go on the kinds of adventures she heard about from pilots. However, a far stronger part of her was anxious when riding in small crafts. It was the idea of flying she liked, not actually flying. Instead, she found her own adventures on land. In her rare moments of free time, Rune would often ran around with local teenagers and wreck havoc on the local community. They never got into too much trouble, though. While her parents might have worried about her, they were in trouble of their own. In a financial tight spot, their parents borrowed money from a local crime lord which would turn out to have tragic consequences.
On the night before their parents died, Rune woke up from a nightmare. She'd had a nightmare about stumbling across her parent's bodies. The nightmare had felt so real that Rune was unable to go back to sleep. The following morning Rune was grouchy and snappy at both of her parents. She had wanted to go off with her friends but they made her go to work with Roland. The three fought but eventually Roland and Rune went off to the vaporators to work for the day. Later, once their work was done they returned to their home. Their parents had been killed when collectors from the crime lord hadn't received their payment. Their loss was devastating to both Roland and Rune but seeing her dream come to fulrition was particularly disturbing. For months afterwards Rune barely slept, afraid she'd have a dream again.
While the death of their parents sent Roland into action, it pushed Rune into a state of inaction. She relied heavily on her brother and would sometimes sneak drinks to ease her nerves. Though, eventually the guilt of freeloading on her brother motivated Rune enough to find work at one of the shops. Even then the two barely scraped by while trying to save money to leave the planet far behind. In addition to her work at the shop, Rune sought out shadier side jobs that allowed her to gain extra money. Rune kept these jobs from Roland in part to protect him from any guilt or shame he might feel if he knew what she'd done.
Eventually, the two were able to leave Tatooine behind and move into New Republic space. Roland joined the New Republic military who with the growing conflict offered opportunities otherwise not available. Rune was only sixteen and unable to do much of anything. Instead she bid her time and studied so that when she was eighteen she too would be able to join. Once again she dreamt of flying at her brother's side or becoming a soldier but was convinced by Roland not to. Instead she found herself behind the desk working as a communications officer for the pilots. Oddly, Rune found the work to be satisfying and she enjoyed it. What was more, the position offered promising avenues to move up. Instead of becoming an action hero, Rune set her sights to working in intelligence which suited her better anyway.
Rune watched Roland retreat into himself as he lost friends in battle. She would do her best to comfort him but found it was of little use. The two clung to one another. Even after all this time away from Tatooine and away from the home where they lost everything, the two were still very much alone.
RP Sample: Finally, after a great deal of finagling, and rearranging shifts with coworkers, Rune had managed to get a few days off for a much needed vacation. She'd offered a spot on the shuttle to her older brother, Roland. He'd declined, probably to instead angst in his room or work. That was perfectly fine in Rune's opinion, she could travel alone and sometimes enjoyed it. As soon as she'd gotten the approval for the leave she booked a seat on the next transport to Dantooine. The planet wasn't exactly known for being a tourist attraction. It did, however, have a New Republic base on the planet and had some old ruins from the days of the Jedi. Not many people hung around there from Rune's research but she figured a nice hike and some exploring was the sort of break she needed. Better yet, aside from the price of the transport it cost her nothing. All the things she would need for the hike and camping was readily available to her.
She'd arrived on the planet a day ago and had hitch hiked her way to the village near the ruins. Once she was close enough she began her hike. Dantooine really was quite beautiful. The planet was most used for farming and that was evident by the variety of terrain she walked through. First there was wooded area which offered shade followed by flat clear cut farm land dotted with nerfs or crops. Rune passed the village by without really going in. She was very well aware of the fact that she probably did not smell pleasant in the slightest. Besides, the scenery was beautiful and she was close to her destination now so she pressed on.
The Jedi Temple, or what remained of it, was a sight to behold. Rune imagined that in its time, the temple was even more impressive. She imagined the warrior-monk-wizards walking around doing all manner of wizard-like things. Maybe she did not know exactly what a Jedi was. All she knew was that the legendary Luke Skywalker who had destroyed the Death Star and killed Darth Vader thirty years ago had been a Jedi. Skywalker had died in the process and the Jedi with him. It was hard to imagine what ten thousand Luke Skywalkers running around would have been like. Thinking about that gave Rune a new burst of energy and she rushed forward. She flung her pack to the side and climbed up over the embankment.
Despite being ruins, there was an impressive amount of the structure left of the enclave. Rune had spent what remained of the day running around the buildings, poking into places no one seemed to have been in in quite some time. As the sun began to go down she reluctantly returned to where she'd dropped her pack. She brought her supplies closer to the temple's shelter. It was here she decided to set up camp. The tent was easy but the fire was a little more difficult to get started. Though, once she had, Rune found herself quite at home. On her way to the temple, one of the farmers who had given her a lift had warned her about ghosts that haunted the ruins. This had only made the temple more appealing in her mind. Rune wasn't one to believe in ghosts or magic but she knew that bragging back at the station about sleeping in the shadows of a haunted temple just made the trip better. However, that warning took on a new context when Rune heard some rocks shift. As far as she'd known there was no one else there with her.
Standing from her seat, she reached for the blaster she'd laid out beside her. Ghosts might not be affected by blaster bolts but people were. Something in the back of her skull prickled and her heart pumped with adrenaline. Something felt off but she couldn't quite figure out what it might be.
"Someone there?" she called. "It's not nice to sneak up on girls, ya know."
